Video beskrivelse

It suggests that technology is the first mover. It suggests that technology divides us, technology disorientates us, technology disrupts us. And I think it treats technology as a kind of God, the first mover, the original sin, the original good thing. I can blame that of course on my publishers. Publishers like these sort of short, snappy titles which blame something: How technology kills men, how technology kills our culture, how technology ruins our community. I think technology needs to be seen in a more complex way. Technology is both the cause and an effect of the way we live in the 21st century, and digital technology is increasingly becoming central.

So the internet is both a cause and an effect of our malaise, of our alienation, of the hot, dizzying nature of 21st century digital life. That's why I called my book 'Digital Vertigo'. Vertigo is of course all about being dizzy, of being disoriented and confused. That spinning feeling we will have every time we switch on our iPad or our iPhone, is the dominant nature of 21st century life: digital vertigo.
